This specific restaurant is really a step above fast food. Some store have a drive-thru, but thankfully mine did not! Basically there’s a menu of meats and sides and you will order individual meals, family meals, as well as catered meals. The food is setup buffet-looking style, and the workers make your meals quickly in front of you.
I worked my way up to be the main trainer, and so I was experienced in all areas from the place – server, cashier, meat carver, cook, dishwasher, and management.
Let’s move on using the food. Temperature is very important with food-hot food hot, cold food cold, and also the level of temperature needs to fall within a certain range to avoid being dangerous. We were designed to go ahead and take temperature of the individual food items during the day. However, as we were too busy, we would just get the checklist and make in the temperatures. The carving knives weren’t cleaned as frequently because they must have been, coupled with different meats always caked to the blades.
Occasionally something could be dropped on the ground, and I’m not just referring to the meat tongs. I once saw a carver drop a whole tray of chicken on the floor after which serve it like nothing had happened! Now, before I seem like area of the problem, allow it to be know that I said things on multiple occasions! I had been out-spoken and got warnings all of the time because of it. I knew they wouldn’t fire me though – I was the hardest worker!
I always knew this restaurant would enter trouble one day. My manager would send us on break after which have us wake up from your meal and work if things got busy. They’d take minutes off our time sheet if we worked
overtime. Sometimes they wouldn’t provide us with our employee meal discount, even though manager’s kids came in and ate for free.

Speaking of her kids, she let her minor children run around all of the hot machines and expected the workers to baby-sit! As with many irritated employees, weacted out in our own way. I’m not condoning our behavior, for I am not innocent myself, but we’d our own feelings concerning the matter and acted accordingly! Some people took home food without permission. A lot of us gave out discounts to friends here and there. I was always left in advance on my own in the core day, following the manager would send everyone home and that i could be with no cook or carver a couple of hours while she hid in the office. Free drinks! Sometimes I’d give free meals to my friends, or charge them for something really cheap if someone walked up and I had to ring something up.
Eventually I quit and moved on but still knew some people working there. I still continued to say this place would get in trouble. In no time it happened! A manager in a different store around was fired for serving expired meat. My very own manager was fired too, although I never fully heard why! Then one day I learned about the class action lawsuit – someone had spoken up about the unfair treatment when it came to breaks and such. This was a blessing for the restaurant in a way. Many things have changed – The menu, the look, the employees. Now I see commercials on TV and coupons in the newspaper. I’m certain stuff still goes on, like at any place of work, but I bet the workers aren’t as bitter, and therefore the customers can trust the service more! (See also : Online Entrepreneur Coaching)
